Professor Lisa Stansbie
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Equalities and Student Experience
Professor Lisa Stansbie joined 51ºÚÁÏÉçÇø in September 2025 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education, Equalities and Student Experience. She came to 51ºÚÁÏÉçÇø from the University of Worcester, where she was Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education, Culture and Society. In that role, she led the university’s equalities work, access and participation, and campus experience. She also had academic oversight of the Institute of Arts and Humanities (including the Law School), the Institute of Education, and Worcester Business School, alongside executive responsibility for TNE provision in China and Hong Kong.
Her regional arts and culture work at Worcester included partnerships with the City Council, more than 30 arts organisations and Arts Council England to develop the city’s first Cultural Compact, which she chaired, and to secure an ACE Place Partnership bid aimed at strengthening the city’s arts and culture offer and retaining creative graduates in the region.
Before Worcester, Lisa held senior leadership roles at Leeds Beckett University, including Dean of the Leeds School of Arts and Dean of the School of Art, Design and Architecture, where she led the arts and culture anchor strategy within the university’s overall strategy. She also co-led delivery of the £95m Leeds School of Arts building. Earlier in her career, she was Head of Art and Communication at the University of Huddersfield.
Lisa’s academic background is in digital arts practice, film, and sculpture. She has written extensively, presented at numerous conferences, and exhibited in nearly 50 solo and group shows as an artist. She holds a PhD from Leeds Metropolitan University, becoming the first person to submit an entirely web-based interactive doctoral thesis.
She is currently a governor at Ravensbourne University and has previously served as chair of Axis, the national artists’ charity, and as co-chair of the National Association of Fine Art Education.
At 51ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, Lisa leads the university’s education and student experience strategy, consolidating the delivery of block teaching and advancing new Pedagogies of the Future. She works closely with Library and Student Services and with De Montfort Students’ Union to ensure an outstanding and inclusive student experience. Lisa also leads on equalities, supporting the delivery of 51ºÚÁÏÉçÇø’s Race Equality Charter and Athena Swan action plans, closing awarding gaps, and fostering a vibrant, diverse and fair campus community.
